Reading Buddy Project in Kindergarten

Reading Buddy Project in Kindergarten
Paola Ricci, Primary Division Design Thinking

On World Read Aloud Day, Kindergarteners took home their very own reading buddies! They had made them over several weeks during Design Thinking class.

Students started by participating in a read aloud of "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think" by Dr. Seuss, and then drew their reading buddies might look like.

They then photographed their drawings and air-dropped them to Ms. Ricci's computer where they traced their own drawings on Adobe Illustrator. As they drew on Adobe Illustrator, they had to "tell" the computer how the material would be cut. With the drawings traced, they visited the Secondary Division Co-Lab where they learned about the laser cutter and cut their drawings in felt.

With the help of amazing teachers and interns, students sewed, stuffed and decorated their reading buddies. We are excited our students now have little companions for their read-aloud journeys!
