Willow Yang

Willow Yang returns to Avenues as head teacher in a Chinese section of 3rd grade. Her previous roles at Avenues have included 2nd grade associate teacher, Chinese support teacher and 3rd grade head teacher. A native of Heilongjiang, China, Willow has more than 10 years of experience teaching Chinese as a second language to students across all grade levels.

Before coming to Avenues, Willow taught Chinese language and culture to international students in the junior and senior schools at Guo Kai International School (Qingdao, China). There, she gained experience in differentiated instruction, using approaches like role-play, game-based learning and song and dance in the classroom. Willow also spent two years as a head teacher of grade 4 and Chinese immersion teacher at the Yew Chung International School (Qingdao). In that role she not only taught Chinese language and culture but also taught math and social studies, organized school-wide Chinese cultural events and led extracurricular activities including Chinese cooking, paper cutting, dancing and tai chi kung fu fan.

Willow’s additional experience includes six years as a Chinese teacher at the Qingdao No. 1 International School of Shandong Province, where she also served as the Chinese department coordinator, and four years as a Chinese history teacher at Haishan Private High School (Qingdao, China). She has also served as a volunteer teacher in poverty-stricken regions in China.

Willow earned a B.A. in history education from Qufu Normal University (Qufu, China). She holds certifications in high school education and in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

Outside of work, Willow enjoys reading, traveling and making crafts.
