Narcy Carranza

This fall, Narcy Carranza returns to Avenues as an associate division head for the Upper Division overseeing the intensive language programs in grades 6–12. Previously, Narcy had been the Lower Division’s Spanish literacy specialist.

Narcy came to us in 2016 from Glen Arden Elementary in Arden, North Carolina. There, she was a Spanish immersion teacher for 4th grade. Her students benefited from frequent opportunities to use the immersion language during multisensory experiences. Before Glen Arden, Narcy was a Spanish immersion teacher for grades 2 and 4 at Forest Hills Global Elementary in Wilmington, North Carolina. At Forest Hills, she created International Baccalaureate planners and provided a pathway for the school and district to become globally designated by collaborating in a cross-cultural program. Narcy also was part of a team that provided early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs.

Earlier, she was the acting middle school vice principal at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana in Honduras, a school at which Narcy had also served as the the 6th grade mathematics team leader for several years. She also worked at Honduras’ Escuela Episcopal el Buen Pastor as an English immersion teacher in their early learning center.

Narcy has a bachelor’s degree from Universidad de San Pedro Sula in Honduras and an M.A.Ed. with a concentration in international teaching from Framingham State College in Massachusetts. She is currently working toward her M.A. in Spanish from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Born in Mexico and raised in Honduras, Narcy is a native Spanish speaker, in addition to speaking English and German. Outside of school, Narcy enjoys going to soccer and baseball games, biking and hiking, and wishes to continue pursuing her love for everything there is to enjoy about the ocean, like surfing.
