Lindsey Segal returns to Avenues this fall as an associate teacher in 1st grade. She came to Avenues last year as an intern in the Avenues Interim Mastery program. Previously, Lindsey worked as a 9th grade algebra teaching apprentice at Blue Engine, an AmeriCorps Program. There, Lindsey successfully collaborated with other teachers to provide differentiated and culturally suitable small-group instruction to underserved high school students. She opened her classroom for after-school extended learning time for all students, especially for those who needed individual assistance.
Earlier, Lindsey was a campus campaign coordinator at Teach for America, serving as a representative at various classes, student organizations, and career and recruitment fairs and working with a team to plan and execute physical and social media marketing strategies.
Lindsey worked also as a basic needs intern at Jewish Family and Children’s Service, where she developed an interactive curriculum on hunger and nutrition to foster healthy eating habits and promote learning for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. She also was a mentor for children in lower-resource St. Louis public schools, tutoring small groups of 4th-grade students in reading and writing once a week. As an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor for foreign graduate students, she assigned a diverse curriculum of reading and writing to enhance students’ knowledge of English language and grammar.
Lindsey holds a B.A. in psychological and brain sciences and educational studies from Washington University in St. Louis. Outside of the classroom, Lindsey loves to cook, travel and spend time with friends and family.
