Fiona Mason joins Avenues as a middle grades science teacher. Fiona has nearly 20 years of experience in education, teaching students of various grade levels at elementary and middle schools.
This fall, Austin Mixsell returned to Avenues as the coordinator of school culture. In this role, Austin is responsible for developing programming aligned with Avenues' mission to hold students accountable for their actions, particularly with regard to school and class attendance, minor violations of our honor code and failure to uphold community standards. He also works with deans of students, associate division heads and faculty to foster a strong sense of community across all grades in the Upper Division
Andy Laster joined the Avenues faculty in the fall of 2017 as an instrumental music teacher for Lower Division students. Before coming to Avenues, Andy served as the music teacher at several New York City schools, including City Knoll Middle School, PS330Q and at New Explorations in Science, Technology and Math (NEST+m).
Allison Snell (Ali) joined the Avenues faculty in the fall of 2017 as a learning specialist in the Upper Division. Before coming to Avenues, Ali worked as a literacy coach for the NYC Department of Education.
Meredith Nuber joined the Avenues faculty in the fall of 2017 as the Global Journeys intern for our Upper Division students. Previously, Meredith worked as an intern for the UAS7 Liaison Office at the German University of Applied Sciences in New York.
Kara Putrino joined the Avenues faculty in the fall of 2017 as a Lower Division literacy specialist. Kara first came to Avenues in 2013 as an in-school tutor, and then again in 2016 as a part-time literacy specialist through the Teachers College Literacy Specialist program.
