Students in the Early Learning Center learned so much about Lunar New Year this winter. For instance, students learned about how festive red and gold lanterns are used on special occasions. Then, created three different kinds of lanterns.

This was just one of many Lunar New Year activities the students participated in. The children also made their own rattle drums and red envelopes, elements that are important to include in a Lunar New Year celebration. They had the opportunity to play an interactive game that involved tossing a bean bag into a piggy bank, and dressed in Chinese costumes and played with traditional fans in our dramatic play area. Students also enjoyed the sensory tables with chopsticks, Chinese take-out boxes and many more sensory objects!

Finally, the Early Learning Center students also enjoyed cooking dumplings! Kindergarten had a great experience preparing all the ingredients and enjoyed every taste. Along with some cooking, students also attended a Lunar New Year assembly with interactive Chinese storytelling and songs.
