Herencia Española in Kindergarten

Evelyn Vivar

Kindergarten celebrated Spanish Heritage month by learning about Spanish countries–Honduras, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia. With special guests, they learned about each country’s foods, customs, music, dances and flags. At their play centers, they had the opportunity to try on traditional costumes and play instruments such as maracas, marimbas, guitars and guacharacas. They played with Mexican jicara toys and practiced counting on them. They also made tortillas! Students experienced using a tortillera press and kneaded the masa, or dough and had a wonderful time eating them!
