Upper Division students performed in both Spanish and Mandarin Chinese for this year’s Cabaret! Although previous years had featured songs in Spanish, this was the first year our Cabaret included Chinese as well. The two hosts—one for each language—bantered with one another in between performances, which showcased songs and dances from a variety of different cultures.
But the Cabaret is much more than a performance—it’s an interdisciplinary project that combines performing arts, music and language. As Trevor, our Spanish emcee, explained, “Music is the most powerful way to learn and fully establish a second language.”
