Superhero Finger Puppets Capture the Imagination of Grade 3!
Kate Howard

Third grade students designed their superhero finger puppet characters and dedicated weeks in the studio to make them come to life. To begin, they wrapped plaster strips around their fingers to form a body. Once dry and set, students followed their design plans to sculpt facial features, cut felt to add clothing , worked with yarn to create hair. Additionally, the group created many unique accessories to further define their characters. Third grade artists then working in small groups to create an original story involving their superhero finger puppets.  For this part of the project, they created backdrops using a variety of materials and collaboratively filmed stop motion animation videos using their iPads.  During this film process, students practiced and discovered the value of finding common ground, listening to each other and building on each other's ideas to create epic animations!
