Building Buildings with Paint! 1st Grade Architecture Studies

Grade 1: Architectural Paintings

First grade students embarked on a long term color unit this past fall that culminated in architectural paintings.  Artists applied their mixing knowledge of primary, secondary colors, tints and shades to create lively architecture studies.  First graders chose to paint an existing building or to create a picture of a fantasy building. Students read the story "Home" by Carson Ellis (https://www.carsonellis.com) to understand different types of architecture and to get inspired. In the Spanish art sections, students also sketched and painted Edward Hopper's Rooms For Tourists, 1945.
