For the past several weeks, Avenues Upper Division Spanish 5 classes have been communicating with students from Liceo 7, an all-girls school in Santiago, Chile. The idea of the project is to have students converse in both English and Spanish to practice their second language outside of the classroom, while acting as a sort of linguistic mentor to their pen pals to teach their native language.   More...

On March 20, 2017, a group of middle grades Spanish students will disembark in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and be greeted by a delegation of students, parents and faculty from Holy Trinity College. And although this is only one of the groups traveling abroad on a Global Journeys program this spring break, the trip to Argentina will mark the first true language exchange program for Avenues.   More...

Ninth and tenth graders interviewed some of our Spanish-speaking neighbors at the Hudson Guild Senior Center as part of a monologue project. Everyone had such a good time that the students decided to throw a salsa party and invite their new friends.  More...

This summer, we welcomed our youngest campers to our signature language immersion camp in a new half-day nursery program for three-year-olds. The theme of the first camp session was urban gardening, which students explored by not only planting and maintaining their own urban garden, but also by learning target language vocabulary related to growing and planting and doing crafts that focused on insects and gardening.  More...

Nelsa Cotte will join Avenues as a head teacher in the Spanish immersion program for pre-kindergarten. In the immersion classes, nursery through grade one, children spend half their day in a class conducted in English and half in a class conducted in either Spanish or Mandarin Chinese.  More...

Rosalyn McCaine is a dedicated artist who has served as an art teacher in the Lower Division Spanish immersion classes since she first joined Avenues in 2012. She brings a warmth and a wide range of experience to the students she teaches in kindergarten through grade five.  More...

Sebastian Loza joined Avenues in fall 2015 as an intern in the Avenues Interim Mastery program (A.I.M.). In fall 2016, he will become an associate teacher in a Spanish section of grade two.  More...
