Over the course of this entire school year, the Silver Cats and Rabbits pre-kindergarten classes took a journey into the world of art, in which they practiced looking at (and making) sculptures, paintings, collages and assemblages. Angela Ji Xu first joined Avenues in fall 2012 as the head teacher in a Chinese section of kindergarten (in the immersion classes, nursery through grade three, children spend half their day in a class conducted in English and half in a class conducted in either Spanish or Mandarin Chinese). In fall 2014, she went on to become the immersion coordinator for Chinese teachers in the Early Learning Center (nursery through kindergarten) and Lower Division (first through fifth grade).  More...

For the pre-K's neighborhood unit, we take walking trips that allow us to gauge the children’s interests, since they change from year to year. This year’s class seemed to be interested in the post office, especially because we had been writing letters and sending mail to Ms. Schulman with her designated mailbox in our classroom.  More...
