    "We took a 6th grade project from New York (building a weather station), and the 6th grade students in Uganda showed us they could do it, too—no problem. That’s when I thought, heck, this might really work,” says Julia Higdon, research scientist at Avenues: The World School. Avenues welcomed 23 students and three faculty members from Shenzhen’s Mingde Experimental School, who are doing a six-week college tour throughout the United States. The visit was designed to introduce the Mingde School to our educational model and provide Avenues students with an opportunity to socialize with Chinese students their own age.  More...

Angela Ji Xu first joined Avenues in fall 2012 as the head teacher in a Chinese section of kindergarten (in the immersion classes, nursery through grade three, children spend half their day in a class conducted in English and half in a class conducted in either Spanish or Mandarin Chinese). In fall 2014, she went on to become the immersion coordinator for Chinese teachers in the Early Learning Center (nursery through kindergarten) and Lower Division (first through fifth grade).  More...
