Writing math problems encourages meaningful communication of mathematics, promotes problem-solving skills, allows for differentiation in the classroom and slows down the thinking process. In October, students in the middle grades HIP writing program read about the secret life of Gus the theater cat in T.S. Eliot’s poem of the same name, then imagined their own versions of what kind of secret life their pet would have. The lesson set the scene for an optional field trip to see Cats on Broadway, and on Tuesday, November 1, more than 135 Avenues students, teachers and parents attended the evening show of the musical.   More...

On March 20, 2017, a group of middle grades Spanish students will disembark in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and be greeted by a delegation of students, parents and faculty from Holy Trinity College. And although this is only one of the groups traveling abroad on a Global Journeys program this spring break, the trip to Argentina will mark the first true language exchange program for Avenues.   More...
