On October 2, a group of 13 visited the Dodge Poetry Festival, a biennial four-day celebration of the art form in Newark, NJ. A smaller group of students attended the festival two years ago, but this year's group had more than doubled in size, proof of Avenues students' ever-growing interest in the written and spoken word.  More...

For the past several weeks, Avenues Upper Division Spanish 5 classes have been communicating with students from Liceo 7, an all-girls school in Santiago, Chile. The idea of the project is to have students converse in both English and Spanish to practice their second language outside of the classroom, while acting as a sort of linguistic mentor to their pen pals to teach their native language.   More...

Brendan Dolan is the instrumental music instructor for the Upper Division. Previously, he'd worked as a private and group instructor for children ages five through 18 in classical, pop and Irish music on piano, flute, tin whistle, drums and guitar.  More...

Avenues welcomed 23 students and three faculty members from Shenzhen’s Mingde Experimental School, who are doing a six-week college tour throughout the United States. The visit was designed to introduce the Mingde School to our educational model and provide Avenues students with an opportunity to socialize with Chinese students their own age.  More...

Ninth and tenth graders interviewed some of our Spanish-speaking neighbors at the Hudson Guild Senior Center as part of a monologue project. Everyone had such a good time that the students decided to throw a salsa party and invite their new friends.  More...

Sally Kent first joined Avenues in 2012 as the science curriculum specialist for the middle grades program and Lower Division while teaching middle grades science.
