News-O-Matic visits the 3rd Grade
This year we are excited to announce that our Lower School* students will be participating in the Press 4 Kids program, News-O-Matic. News-O-Matic is an app that provides children from the ages of 7-11 with a daily newspaper. Many of our students already have the app on their iPads, but this year they had the opportunity to help choose the news.
On November 7, the editor of the children’s newspaper, Rus Khan, and the founder of the program, Lillian Stern, stopped by our third grade class to introduce the students to the program.
Along with Rus and Lillian, the third graders got to vote on which news articles they wanted to see published. During the class, the students learned about the different categories of news and the terminology involved in newspapers, as well as how to name articles.
We are excited about our partnership with News-O-Matic, so check out their app and find out what news Avenues students are reading and choosing.
*Please note that beginning in the 2016–17 school year, Avenues moved from a four-division school structure with an Early Learning Center (N–Pre-K), Lower School, (K–4), Middle School (5–8) and Upper School (9–12) to a three-division structure with an Early Learning Center (N–K), Lower Division (1–5) and Upper Division (6–12). The Upper Division is further divided into two programs—the middle grades program (6–8) and the upper grades program (9–12).
