Li-Dai Lu joins Avenues as a math teacher in Middle and Upper School. For the last six years, he has been at Trinity School in New York City, where he taught algebra II, AP statistics and geometry. Last summer, he taught algebra II in an intensive summer program at the Taipei American School in Taipei, Taiwan, where Li grew up and where his family still resides.
Prior to joining Trinity, Li taught AP statistics and algebra II/trigonometry at the High School for Mathematics, Science and Engineering at City College of New York and at Skyline Center High School in the Dallas (TX) Independent School District.
Li received both a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering and a B. A. in English from the University of Texas at Austin. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing, with secondary education certification in English, from Texas State University and holds Texas educator certification in both secondary English and secondary mathematics for grades 6-12.
Li’s teaching experience is not limited to mathematics. He began his teaching career at Texas State University, where he taught first-year college writing courses while pursuing his MFA. Li moved to New York for its opera companies, and he still writes. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English, Li is particularly fond of classical Chinese novels. He looks forward to teaching comparative literature courses at Avenues, in addition to math.
