Avenues: The World School, an independent N-12 school in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, is seeking proposals for a site-specific artwork to be installed on our 16 screen interactive video wall. Modes of interaction could include, but are not limited to, computer vision, sound, motion, mobile devices or augmented reality. We are particularly interested in works that will incorporate multiple external sources of data to auto-generate continually changing visuals or sound. Also desirable is work that reflects the global nature of Avenues’ mission as a school.
This call is open to professional artists with a demonstrated history of creating digital, interactive, installation or video art. High quality graduate-level work will be considered. Past work designed for a school-aged audience is a plus.
Preference is for an artist or group living/working in the NYC metro area. Artist(s) will be expected to do some work on site.
The artist(s) will be responsible for executing all creative and technical aspects of the project, in partnership with the Avenues iLab director and the Avenues creative group.

After review of submissions, selected artists will be invited to tour the school and observe the video wall and its environs. These artists will then be asked to submit a specific proposal to the committee with detailed renderings or visualizations, technical requirements, budget and timeline. The committee will review the proposals and choose several artists to present their proposals to the committee and members of Avenues’ leadership team. At this time, a final selection will be made, and the budget for the selected project will be approved. More than one artist or group may be selected to create artworks.
